That's definitely a real speedster.

That's actually faster than Rocket Ismail's time in the 100m.

He hardly ran any Outdoor meets at Notre Dame was the issue, but he ran 10.34 in his 2nd meet which is the FAT record at ND. He only competed in a handful of Outdoor races.

There have been players with more raw speed than Rocket Ismail, but I have yet to see anyone come close to what his football field speed was.

I still remember one of the 1989 kickoff returns against Michigan. It looked like the coverage guy (I can't remember his name, but I do remember he was timed at a legit 4.4 in the 40) had the perfect angle on Rocket, and that it should have been an easy tackle, but Rocket just kicked it into a much higher gear, and blew past him. To blow past a legit 4.4 guy like that was nothing short of incredible.

You could see some of the Michigan players throwing down their helmets in disgust on the sidelines during that KO return.

2x AA Tripp Welborne, guy ran a 4.35 and would've went #2 in '91 Draft.

Blew his knee out in 10th game of the '90 season and instead of him going #2 in the Draft, Eric Turner from UCLA did, he slid all the way to 7th Rd. Needed reconstructive surgery on his knee, sat out 17 months and returned to play for Vikings in '92 season and blew out the other knee in his 2nd game ...Sad story

I was wondering what happened to him in that 1991 draft, seeing how he was an All-American for two consecutive years, being the strong safety who could do it all, and very well.

Yeah, it's a sad story to see that kind of amazing ability get crippled with an unfortunate, freak injury. Looking at the video footage, it's as if he basically landed in the most unlucky position, since he wasn't even hit when his leg buckled.

Were down 2 scores early. The play was electric and sent the entire place into the stratosphere. Easily the most exciting play I have ever witnessed in person.

We won that game and that play flipped the switch.

Rocket was still hobbled by that deep thigh bruise from two weeks before, during that Stanford game. Recovering from that nasty of a deep thigh bruise takes at least 3 weeks, and closer to a month, before you're truly back at full speed.

The funny thing, though, is that Rocket at 90% of his max speed was still faster than anyone on the field, other than maybe a healthy Randall Hill on the other side, or Rod Smith, Clint Johnson, and Willie Clark on our side.

I remember during one of Lou's press conferences, he was "glumly" saying that Rocket might not be able to play for the Miami game. He had that same look on his face when several weeks before that, right before the Purdue game, he made some oddball claim that Purdue could be the third best team in the nation...

I grew up in Scranton PA, rocket in Wilkes barre and Tim ruddy in dunmore. All within 10 miles of each other.. I was the only one not to be an All American πŸ˜†. We were all students at same time.

I went to high school a year ahead of Marc spindler , Rocco’s dad. Marc was quite a football player too. Greg skrepnak who played at Michigan was also from Wilkes barre, all overlapped college time. Quite a run for college and pro football in NE PA

He hung around some bad people who got him into trouble, though, including two of his high school classmates who were little more than cheap thugs, along with Tracy Graham, who was also a troublemaker with a bad attitude.

To Graham's credit, he did clean up his act, managed to graduate, and has his own investment company now.

I'm a firm believer that anyone can be redeemed if he chooses to take that path and makes an honest effort.

Some guys are fast out of the blocks but don't have the great top end where they accelerate for the whole 100m, or even fall off slightly during 2nd half of race. These are guys who might have strong 40s but just ok 100m.

Others might be slow starters but once they get rolling (think Josh Adams) they have good top end acceleration so they might have an OK 100m with a weak 40.

Then there are the guys you really want who are explosive at the start (good 40) and have the good top end acceleration to build on the fast start and turn in an elite 100m.

Ultimately unless you can go watch to see what type of runner they are it's hard to correlate the events. Based on how I recall Fuller running, if he trained specifically for to 100 he could probably be a 10.4 type guy.

Carl Lewis ran his best 100 meters and was significantly behind multiple runners at the 60 meters point. He accelerated late. Accelerating earlier changes how fast you're moving at the end (and vice versa), so it's different than straightforward math. Maxing out 40 yards - which they obviously do - will lead to a far slower final 60 yards. How much it will slow the pace down depends on quite a few factors (anaerobic capacity, etc.).

I believe I once saw that Fuller ran a 10.7 100 meters in High School. But his time in the 40 was obviously incredible (legit low 4.3 range per his combine).
