no excuses for him this season. If he doesnβt win it all, the PSU fans will lose their minds because they wonβt have a better opportunity than what they will have this time around. No Michigan on the schedule. Ohio St lost most of their players to the NFL. That said, and to your point, I still donβt think Franklin is a good coach and is overrated as his big game record indicates. The only thing that has saved him is that he recruits fairly well and they tend to have soft scheduling every year, so they win most of their games each season. PSUβs non conference schedule this year is a total jokeβ¦.Nevada, Florida International, and Villanova.
And a couple of the defensive studs are gone. Drew Allar is overrated as well.
However they do have a good offensive line and a great RB duo.
The cupcake non-conference schedule is how the majority of the big conference teams do it now.
Truly, when you've got a player who's not only a terrific receiving/run-after-the-catch Tight End who is also a top-level blocker (not to mention able to line up in the backfield), it is VERY tough to defend. Both Shanahans will tell you how invaluable this is.
I don't know much about their depth chart. Can anyone there pick up the mantle even remotely closely?
Penn State has been doing a fine job it when it comes to recruiting upper level TE talent.
They have Luke Reynolds, a 5 star sophomore, and Andrew Olesh, a high 4 star true freshman, both of whom are top level TE talents. They also got another mid 4 star true frosh in the way of Jeff Exinor, along with more 4 star talent in the junior and GS classes.
I think Reynolds can be in the same ballpark as Warren, now that he has had a full year and two off-seasons in the program.
