Miami is in 3 weeks and no one has stepped up to take the position.
Camp ends next weekend.
One has to hope Minchey is better than advertised. If not, it’s concerning that all-world Carr hasn’t decisively beaten him out.
Either way, I am comfortable with whomever we choose, and grateful that there won't be a big dropoff if QB2 needs to play.
Both of them are significantly better pure passers than their predecessor. With the offensive line being a strength this year, and our having the best stable of running backs (even without Kedren Young), the offense can work at full capacity.
I liken this to the 1990 QB battle between Rick Mirer and Jake Kelchner. Either of those guys could run the offense very nicely, and both of them were significantly better passers than Tony Rice was.
Mirer won by default, because Kelchner broke his collarbone in the Blue and Gold game. Prior to that, Kelchner was ever so slightly ahead of Mirer.
No reason to. Nothing we can control as fans. Worrying would mean thinking that Minchey is so bad that Carr should be leaps and bounds ahead of him and isn't for some reason. The other way to look at it, as noted below, is that two, by all accounts, very talented players are competing and forcing a hard decision to be made. I'll hope it is the latter, because that is great for ND in more ways than one.
Latest word I heard from pods is very slight lead by Carr, but Minchey is not going away without a fight. Both still making some bad decisions, but not repeating those decisions either, which is good news as well. That's growth.
They will likely settle on someone in order to prep them for Miami if no one takes a commanding lead to take the QB1 job by the end of camp.
I fully expect the primary gameplan for Miami to be run the ball, run some more, and maybe run it a little bit more, with not a lot for the QB to do that would put the game on their shoulders.
fine but it would feel much more comforting to be rolling into Miami and TAM with Angeli.
play action also with good short accurate passes with a chance for a lot of YAC.
Both have a year in the system (2 for Minchey), both have played spring ball, summer drills and the start of fall camp. It would be much better if the starter was known by now. It would be a confidence builder and give most of the reps to the chosen one.
My concern is that Carr hasn't elevated his game to the point that he can be named the starter yet.

Matter of fact, it'd be great if they didn't know until kickoff.
The team knows, treat the rest of us/them like mushrooms.
Even if Miami knows the QB, it’s not like they have any film to study.

I agree with you. Film or no film, don’t give Miami any kind of help by announcing the QB until the week or day of the game or not at all.
There's literally no way they can have success if we don't know who they are this very moment.

The good news this year is we don't need the offense to be around the QB. I think both these young QBs are accurate enough to throw the quick slants, screens and other downhill pass rush nullifying plays we haven't had in awhile.
Yes, one way or another, for the 1st time since Ian Book (sort of ignoring Buchner), we'll have a home-grown QB who has never started.
Should we worry that Minchey is better than what many thought?
Does this mean that Carr is less than what many thought?
Or maybe, just maybe, we have two quality guys battling for the starting job.
Is that a bad thing?

why give the 'canes a head start preparing against a specific qb style. make them guess and have to dilute their preparation.
