For me, it was the Urban Meyer debacle. I was craving ANY information and was desperately seeking a forum that could provide even the slightest bit of insight. I witnessed a meltdown of people like me who were frustrated and extremely angry about how this could have happened. I remember when board ops shut down the board and said they wouldn't start it back up until we had all cooled down.
It has been interesting over the years. I remember there was a guy (Lep something) who took high-quality pictures, mostly of cheerleaders during games, but was removed because he was sketchy(?).
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed “Big news afoot!”, “It’s Stoooooops!” and Valhalla (Never did figure that one out.) I’ve enjoyed the dialogue, exchange of ideas, and disagreements, as well as the occasional prayer requests.
Thanks, everyone, and I look forward to the day when we share how jacked-up we are about winning a National Title.

That was late 90's or so, maybe early 2000's, I really don't remember.
I mostly just read, not nearly as active of a poster as some are. I mostly just enjoy talking college football with people.
I joined shortly after discovering the internet just before Davie was removed. I was totally against the Wilingham hiring also. There is such a big difference in traffic since then. Dailey there could be several pages of discourse. For big games you could not get through it all. Sadly as mediocre year after mediocre year passed it became less and less. For a time, Rocks House was the most active, but now this site seems to be. It is not even, close even for big games now. I think Freeman might regenerate interest very quickly.
Miss oinker (sp?) and the durango? guy who used to do the long, poetic posts.
Used to be all over it, got old and have family but I still love y'all

ND grad and lifelong fan and I was looking for a site with other ND fans. Found this site and have been here ever since.
I can’t recall what his connection was to this site. I liked his recruiting updates. Then he ended up getting his own site. I think the best way to cope with the insanity after Holtz resigned was with other Irish fans.
The site only lasted a couple of years.
I needed an outlet to vent my extreme displeasure with him.
And still do.

The moderator could not appreciate irony or sarcasm.
This was shortly after Frank joined Kyle on it. Was searching the web for some discussions on a Tony Driver-related topic and found the Message Board. Requested membership and have enjoyed it thoroughly ever since. I've literally been on UHND for more years of my life now than I wasn't.
ChestertonLep is who you're referring to. He wasn't removed - he was hyper-sensitive to the slightest joke and left. He passed away 15 years ago.
A long time
My posts are accompanied by the tag 'Original UHND Member'. I don't know what that means but I've been here a long time....certainly over 25 years. I still remember a certain poster's election night temper tantrum the evening George Bush was elected President, and that was in 2000.
I briefly had a profile at ND Nation and was promptly banned over something very benign - I can't even remember what it was other than I disgreed with someone in a non-confrontational way - seriously. I haven't visited that site in several years.
Thankful to Frankie & Company for their continued outstanding work in providing us with this platform.
GO IRISH!
I was never vulgar. Never made an ad hominem.
I told them to close my account. That I would leave on my terms and not theirs.
After the banning, I never felt the need to be contrite and request re-admission.
I remember being in a hotel room in San Francisco on business that day. I generally check both this site and the open forum daily ever since.
I was somehwere else at the time and for once, that board was darn near in agreement about the dismissal and that particular board never agreed on anything.
...as he was...and I needed someplace to vent.

But, we'll never know.
Imagine the Open without the liberal nutjobs and with virtually no limitations on what you could post. I particularly enjoyed the who's the hottest chick brackets that went on forever.
The halcyon days for sure.
Unfortunately ICE took down Valhamma when Regg was sent back to from where he came.
Valhamma was awesome. Sadly, many of the posters there were banned from here or don't post much anymore.
I joined UHND prior to the 2007 debacle.

GOAT posted that when it first opened. He suggested the immigrant theme (from uhnd). He also suggested the name Valhamma, which stuck.

I'm an alum from the late 80's - early 90's, so I was blessed to see the Holtz era first hand, in person, and some dear friends were Joe Moore-coached offensive linemen from that era. Those guys were the best source of info when it came to understanding how the team was doing, along with what the future was looking like.
Later on, I used to get my info from Thomas Schlidt (really nice guy, too), back when he had his own page on the Observer's site, but when he left ND, that page closed down.
Back when Blue and Gold was its own site, I used to go there all the time, until it got bought out by Rivals.
Then I came upon this place, and have been here for a long time.
This is a magical place, where people from all ends of the spectrum are united behind their love of ND sports. Yes, we'll butt heads here on a regular basis, but in real life, would be happy to buy each other a beer.
The information we get here is as good as anything you'll find on a pay site, as long as you don't mind the information not being instantly hot off the presses, etc. I'm fine with that, since knowing something about some premium recruiting info a bit later isn't going to change my life at all.
Sure, you'll have some people ignorant of how a program is properly run, and you'll have some folks who won't admit that someone in the program is a cancer to the team, etc. Heck, I'll freely admit that I had put too much faith in Brian Kelly to get us to the absolute pinnacle, and agree with another poster (with whom I've also butted heads with) that he was right when he said that "he's gots to gooooooo!"
At the end of the day, we all bleed Blue and Gold, and want what's best for the University and the program.
Do you know if he posts anywhere on ND boards?

it's been many years.
I originally discovered ND football boards when we got our first family desktop computer, and had "Prodigy" account. Damn, that was long ago!
Somehow I stumbled onto this site, and it's pretty much the only one I read regularly. I've been a ND fan all of my life, been to probably 60-70 or more home games, and maybe a dozen away or neutral site games.
I enjoy (most of) the banter here, and at least take a peek pretty much daily.
Go Irish!!
GOAT and Aragoto.
Are you referring to Valhamma? That website was named after The Irish Hammer. It was great.
I joined here in December of '22.
The Football Forum is decent.
