A hypothetical just for sh*ts & giggles: What would be your reaction if…

if on 8/31 Blake Hebert was the starting QB vs Miami?

Seriously, I still think it’ll be Carr with Minchey coming in for situational offense.

I’m not sure how many of you guys listen to the “Locked on Irish” podcast but the guy who hosts it brought up a point that’s very interesting- does the starting QB get named bc they have excelled in camp or bc they’ve made the least mistakes in camp?

I’m hoping & praying for the former.

Freeman is a tight lipped coach.

The idea that anyone thought they’d volunteer the 99.99999999% of practice no one outside of the team has seen is silly. I’m sure things are “leaked” or some “off the record” conversations happen, but again, doubt the real story is being told.

If you were a tight lipped coach, you’d say “it’s a real competition. It’s 50/50. No one has taken the job. Etc etc.”

That makes Miami prepare for a pocket and mobile QB. That makes the team respect that you told them it was a real competition and you’re following through. That keeps both QB’s engaged in a season where we probably will need both of them at some point.

Which I think will happen, what are the chances we see some Minchey package? (Not ideal, but wouldn’t hate it)

No need for that.

Carr will have a leash.

If he cowers under the lights, hand the keys to Kenny.

Another game manager? Hell no. If they want a perfect QB then they are kidding themselves.

At some point we have to go all in with a real offense that has a QB that can make all the throws.

A few picks will happen.

If we are going to play the guy with the fewest mistakes why even recruit high quality QBs?

Great QB's can make the plays AND protect the ball.

Tom Brady didn't become great by taking chances just because he had the arm talent to do it. He became great, and NE won games, because he made the right play over and over (usually check downs and often throwing the ball into the dirt to avoid a sack) and made the big arm talent throws when they were there to be made,

Give me the guy that takes care of the football and makes the smart play over and over all day long. That's what winning QB's do.

That’s true but if you push the ball a bit more with downfield routes

You are going to throw a few interceptions. No way around that but u can’t NOT make those throws if u don’t want any interceptions.

When u read the reports it’s makes it sound as if we don’t want any interceptions. Against our defense there are going to be some. Minimizing it through good decisions is needed but eliminating it and holding it over someone’s head for playing time seems like the impression the articles give

Not sure who these "reports" are from, but Denbrock isn't a guy that's going to

be afraid to take shots down field. Sounds like guys watching 15 minutes of practice and saying stupid things based off that 15 minutes.

ND has both the QB's and WR talent this year to stretch the field, the running game to force D's to play up and the OL to give whomever starts the time to see the field. Finding guys wide open down field should not be a problem and it'll be the right play to make.

Doubt anyone is actually afraid to take those shots for any reason. Just "journalists" "reporting" on what ND is showing them, which is (as always) nothing.

I tend to think this is most of the problem. Will find out soon enough.

A good QB will make up for picks with touchdowns

You can't win it all unless you sling it a little.
