They clearly, at that time, had a vendetta against ND. No other university, no matter what violations occurred, was pursued the same way by them. The network is a typical expression of dominant media culture, structurally hostile to anything Catholic. But, it is also a place willing to prostitute whatever occasional ‘values’ it may claim to embody, for profit, in proper media fashion. So they will still cover the Irish, because ND brings in the long green.

They did everything possible to discredit the University and program. Absurd accusations of racism, constant attempts at minimizing the accomplishments of Weis' first two teams, blatant misrepresentation of the ineptitude of Willingham and staff during their tenure, you name it. Then came 2007 - sure, Weis did himself no favors that season, but the network in question made an all-out attempt to squash us. I've never seen anything like it.
The worst of their offenders are largely gone, but for those who were following it at the time, it's unforgettable. You're right, they're a necessary evil, but they can never be trusted.
Once upon a time...long, long ago...they were the default station when the TV was turned on...
Sportscenter was a must...
Now I may see a portion of it twice a year by accident.
I watch the games they air for college football, but it used to be important to watch Gameday, I'd have it on when it started, and football all day after that. Now I end up catching maybe the last 5 minutes as I turn on the tv so that I can catch the beginning of whatever noon game comes on.
