Tommy Rees' arm was a limp noodle. For some reason, he thought that he had an arm that was at least average, after he managed to throw a 50 yard, wind-assisted pass in practice one day...
His arm was good for short range throws, but anything beyond that was a like a fat duck fluttering in the air.
A lot of his mistakes came when he would try to throw a pass in the shorter part of medium range, where the defensive back would see it coming a mile away.
Rees basically made a good read, but threw a pass that he couldn't physically handle. That would be akin to a junkball pitcher knowing that a high 98 MPH fastball was a certain slugger's weakness, but the 78 MPH junkball thrown in that region ends up getting crushed for a 500 ft home run.
Having Michael Floyd and Tyler Eifert (both 1st round picks) fight for that ball in 2011 bailed him out all too many times. TJ Jones similarly bailed him out a lot in 2013.
