They just happened to stink up the field with 3 lost fumbles. On the other hand, South Florida played a nearly flawless game.
I don't think they're nearly as bad as what some people are saying based on yesterday's pile of fecal matter that they laid.
I'd say that this was similar to our own bad outing against NIU last year. When they come into South Bend in October, you can bet they'll be fired up.
wife and i were at the game. we had incredible expectations that year. n.d. took the opening kickoff and marched practically untouched to a first and goal at the one yard line. wife said to me, "this is waaaaaay too easy. we shouldn't even be playing these guys." i said, "irish haven't scored yet - don't jinx 'em. just wait - it's a long game." next play was handoff to asaph schwap. ball got knocked out of his grip and went a mile into the air. south florida back grabbed it and went 99 yards the other way for the touch. 7 - 0 bulls. it didn't get much better as the night went on. at one point thunderstorms came barreling into the area and the stadium had to be cleared (it was a night game). we finally had to leave in order to make it to our overnight stop.
found out the next day the bulls had won 23 - 20.
never take any team for granted.
ever.
Our section ushers were warning us about impending doom because of the weather in Ann Arbor. Lightning actually hit the pressbox. I was in the lower NW corner Section 32 talking to a couple of ushers when it hit. There is actially a still picture of the strike. That was Jonas Gray who fumbled the ball at the USF one. This part is fuzzy though. Didn't the Irish have a chance to win the game late?
