So what does Miami emphasize on defense to stop ND...and how do the Irish respond?

the standard thought would be to focus on stopping Love and make Carr beat you. Conversely, would it not make sense to spread the field and use short, quick passes to the TE and receivers? Open it up and don't force Love into a loaded box until the box is loose? Carr is pretty accurate and confident...let the beast loose. Then run it down their throat. There is certainly some uncertainty as to whether running into a stacked box can move the ball consistently, regardless of JL's talent. Or maybe if the OL is good enough, it won't matter how stacked they get with some misdirection and other wrinkles to make them bite on JL and run it elsewhere?

I like a good mix with solid execution from the get go and the Canes may be on their heels all night. One thing for certain, they will be quick to react out of the gate.

Thoughts?

Run blitz, run blitz, run blitz. Get in the backfield and try to create havoc for the rookie QB.

If that's the case and with ND's Oline I can see Love and Price ripping off some big runs early and UM going to plan B in short order. Don't think that'll work either.

Danny Kannel said something similar.

And I don't think it's going to work either, but that will likely be the strategy.

Stop the run, force the QB to throw, blitz from different looks

I think we just run it down their throat. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Minchey isn’t worked into the offense.

I would come out in playaction on first down as Miami will be flying to stop the run. Also, would love to see no huddle up tempo to start and get Miami on their heels. Let them think ND will keep it conservative and safe. Love Faison on PR and J love on KR.

80% humidity is the starting point.

Fatigue leads to execution mistakes and penalties.

The ability of the Irish to play 4 quarters in that humidity will determine the outcome.

I did not have any problems if and when I stayed hydrated....especially with Gatorade. I am certain that ND will be prepared in that regard.

Football is another hombre though, but I do not expect either team to suffer any focus due to the heat. Also, with the game being played mostly after sundown it should have even less of an effect compared to a noon start and may even be near pleasant in the second half.

….. Miami is acclimated. The Irish are not.

1st game of the season, 1st start for Carr. National spotlight.

80% humidity is one variable that can make all of the above tenfold more challenging than otherwise.

I think we need a well called game by Denbrock, keep Miami guessing

This is a 1993 FSU game, run it right at them and use our backs, Carr will need to run the the ball also to keep them honest. Play action will be Carr’s best friend in this game. Denbrock can’t hide Carr, he needs to perform and be a dual threat. I like the idea of some slants to WRs and screens to RBs in space, but will need to throw deep to get them out of the box. To be honest, I am more concerned about Special Teams than I am Offense or Defense, unknown kicking game scares the hell out of me. I expect Defense to win this game and win the turnover battle. I would really like to believe that the front four can get pressure without blitzing, if this the case ND should win outright. Excited for the new season, hopefully potential plus preparation will combine for a ND victory.

I think everyone who ever saw a football understands that Kelly's offense was too predictable to be successful against big time DCs. Denbrock has to be unpredictable and take some chances. Personally, I like quick hitting passes simply because for 20 years I have seen other teams very successful when outmanned defensively by ND. It negates blitzing and strong rushes.
