Carr did a good job. Ash is WIP. Game 2 will tell us a lot about Ash and other things.

At this point, D needs some leaders to emerge, and needs to play with the frenetic energy they had under Golden. Didn't see that yesterday, but it's the first game.

We'll see whether Ash is getting his sea legs or if he runs a less aggressive D.

As long as Denbrock is there we will always have Kellyball.

His offense blows.

100% agreed. Miami knew exactly what we were going to do, so predictable.

I guess I can give him partial credit on the QB runs because they were unpredictable, but they were still stupid.

Two guys missing brought that leadership and energy last year...

Snider and Watts. No one stepped up to provide that and lead the way. Ash has got to require that...demand it. Great teams must have it. These kids have it in them...bring it to the forefront. They all should have a passion to compete...feed it.

The OL has none of that.

Freeman needs to take more control over both game plans.

Spot on. Have no confidence in the OC or DC or the O and D lines. Physically whipped, no urgency and looked shell shocked. Plus, you can't beat a good D without spreading the field. Big time disappointment in Love. He was never a factor. Fine with me, I like Price. He looked ready to play and ran like he wanted to score every time. Perhaps some time on the 3rd string will do Love some Good. I think Carr will be fine later, but was not prepared for a baptism under fire. He is not a running QB and is going to get hurt on QB runs. He is not a Riley Leonard type athlete. Please, coach, put some fire under your coaches and find some guys who want to hit the other team in the mouth to play on the lines.

I agree, but on the Carr point. I think they underutilized him to their detriment.

The problem was more the play calling than the player. At least from my perspective. I do agree it's not ideal to play a top 10 team in his first game. But that said, he's not he reason they lost. He played well enough to win. That is, if the coaches didnt handcuff him. But that's on the coaches and scheduler. They should have got him ready last year or kept Angelli and let Minchey transfer.

I think it was the gameplan. Slow the game down. Shorten it.

Play passive keep everything in front of you. The offense will try to keep them off the field with dinks and dunks. And hold the ball. Tressel ball in a nutshell. We'll steal it in the end as we can't trust our QB to throw downfield. Complimentary football.

Similar to what they did at times last year with Leonard. It never works against a good team. They ceded a half to Miami. Had ND actually played offense and threw downfield first half ND wins that game. And Miami would have scored less as they'd have the ball less.

Fatal flaw is ND didnt play passive D last year, but we can debate that if you like.

True, but imo the fundamental issue was the softness in both lines.

Before the game, the keys to victory were 1. to pressure Beck. He had lots of time to throw. Young was almost absent. 2. To rely on the oline (predicted as one of the best) and get the running game going. The oline was soft. This game was lost in the trenches.

Thread Level: 5

No doubt, neither line played average.
