#1 reason for loss was Coaches failure to develop QB trust last year.

Had they planned to develop this year's QB last year we'd have beaten Miami. If they coaches developed trust in Carr last year they'd have produced a decent game plan, and not a baby steps game plan that caused this defeat. And they'd have won despite subpar Oline and Dline play.

Not to mention, you'd hope they wouldn't have run a bend don't break defense in anticipation of having to keep the game close because of their lack of trust in their chosen QB.

And then when CJ proved their lack of trust unwarranted, the coaches didn't adjust quickly enough to stem the tide.

Just all around poor planning. And lack of a backup plan. Hell we all knew they needed to develop CJ last year. That they didn't is inexcusable and incompetent.

Plenty of blame to go around. OL is my biggest concern, Wagner

was flat out poor. I know it was hot but Knapp not playing the last 2 series because he was gassed (come on...we only had the ball 26 min). Tough position to put Prescot in and he wasn't ready. i kept reading Pendleton and Coogan wouldn't have started this year but they would have been an upgrade

Yep, they were awful.

I'm not too impressed by Wagner either. He got turned inside out on one play as the DE ran right

Offensive coordinator play calling would take that spot.

Agreed. Carr's throws were dead on.

The one that was especially frustrating was when he hit Eli Raridon squarely in the hands, but the ball bounced off his hands.

He was injured in September and had elbow surgery similar to Beck.

Ok, then Minchey or Angelli, or a portal QB.

Properly handled and encouraged Angeli could and should have been kept in light of what was known at the time. He was not given any where enough field time in 2024 when it was known there would be a lack of experience at QB if he left. Bringing in a late bloomer at the expense of not giving Angeli experience was a mistake.

This one isn't armchair. It was a very observable fact. Even the announcers were befuddled.

Going on the road in August at night against a very good Miami team was just monumentally stupid. And we only lost by three. I thought it would be a repeat of 2017 all over again. We were clearly outmatched for much of the game and held it together with a first start QB. Overall I thought we did OK.

As far as second guessing I do agree with you that the offensive gameplan was not great. All those short passes when we have two very good running backs was not what I would choose. I think we will improve as the year goes on. Miami may be the hardest game on our schedule.

Thread Level: 5

Sure, I agree. That definitely was a big part of the problem.

But you play the hand your dealt. And even if they had no clue they'd play Miami first game as opposed to New Mexico or some such team, you have a plan more than a year out. Just like recruiting doesn't start on January 1st. So a plan should have been in place for a QB they could trust to play game 1. Whether that's Minchey, Carr, Angelli, or a portal guy.

True. They did. But any kind of effective offense 1st half keeps Miami off the field and ND on it.

Potentially leading to ND points, and taking some of their points off the board. It also gets Love involved. As they wouldn't be stacking the 5yd box Denbrock created for our offense to exclusively operate in. Probably slows their DE's down a bit too as they have to play run, not just rush the QB.
