His coaching style is not suited for the college game at all
He doesn't have Saban's sociopathic manipulations (personality wise he is an awkward straight-shooter), and he the defensive systems he relies on are usually quite complex. That staff he assembled is...uh...odd. But that goes with the territory.
That being said UNC has been a complete mess since the academic scandal (serves them right), so he may be able to turn things around.
