challenging than last week. I think we will perform better. Here is the problem as I see it. Playing man coverage exposes us to a really great runner at QB. He has a strong arm too. Do we combat with some man to man with blitzing more than one in lanes that perhaps control his ability to use his mobility or do we play mostly zone and force him to throw poorly and blitz causing his accuracy or hopefully lack thereof to happen. From what I have seen he is a dynamic QB. To win, I believe our crowd has to be a factor and we have to keep him guessing by doing both and throwing their timing off. A few turnovers by them would be great. I think it may be a shootout and I hope we win because CJ will be given a longer leash and the line will improve week one to week 2.
... to play zone is much of a factor in the thought process.
They (and I say They I mean Denbrock & Ash) have had 2 WEEKS to figure it out.
Let's see if they have,
I still can't believe MF hired Ash, a guy whose career trajectory had him one step from being out of the game altogether. ND had the money and talent on D to make a splash and hire a top DC and they settled for a guy who was reduced to being a scout for one of the worst run franchises in the NFL. Mindboggling. So I, for one, am not expecting him to figure it out either.
It's up to MF to take a more hands on approach with both units and tell Denbrock to stop being so cute and run the damn ball and maybe just take over the D and have Ash be in charge of getting him coffee when he wants it. It's where his career was heading anyways before MF hired him and he probably needs the practice.
He isn’t.
...handcufffing our improved WR group for 3 quarters.
I'll never understand why it's ok to play conservatively for 3 quarters. Then go balls out for one quarter when you're finally behind. The logic must be keep it close, sneak out a win at the end because you dont trust your team. But it's just so stinking backwards minded when you are the more talented team. Not to mention it shouldn't take 3 quarters and a 14 point deficit to figure out you need to do something different.
It illustrates an inability to think more than one game down the road too, if the whole reason for that plan is a 1st start QB.
To play the game to win at the end in a low scoring affair. No margin for error playing that way. And that assumes u stop the other team.
Play not to lose instead of to win. This game will tell a a lot about our style. I have a feeling that we may never see a downfield passing game, we want a manager that will run not a downfield passer. But we also don’t use our RBs well.
I can only imagine how aggravated our new RB coach was last week.
games too. So many of you underrated Leonard and he was very good to great except for one game.
The modern game where you score points by having a multidimensional offense.
So maybe Leonard is perfect for freeman’s vision of offense but it’s not going to win the test of time if that’s the plan. U need a super strong defense to beat great teams if u can’t throw the ball
And don’t waste your time recruiting kids that can throw. U wind up doing to them what holtz did to Ron powlus.
So would Tim Tebow be. Or anybody else who is a glorified HB. As long as the Tressel influence is there, we'll always be a ground & pound keep it close style team. No matter who the QB is. There's no imagination or innovation going on here.

to legally hit the QB and make him pay every time he runs. We aren't going to stop him the whole game. We have to make enough plays that get overall stops and our offense must be clicking more than their offense to beat them.

if their QB can out run KVA, Sneed, Ausberry and Traore and make plays while doing it, tip your cap to him.
always has the advantage in running one on one especially in the open field because he knows where he is going. It is similar to a player breaking down another player one on one, in basketball only more. That QB can get an extra ten yards even if he gets tackled by the defender. This is why the dual threat QB is such an advantage and makes more key plays than a pure thrower. This type QB makes the most frustration for the defense. You think you have him then you don't. The pros are finally figuring this out. The best QBs beat you both ways but the killer plays are don with the feet, the passers are prettier but heartbreakers beat you more.
Leonard was great for us and Denbrock last year. I do agree Carr can lead us to victory but in the more traditional way and I do think he was a better choice than Minchey. If our oline protects though, Carr can get us a lot of points.
in their lanes while getting pressure on the kid. Easier said than done but ND has the ends and backers to do it IF they play fast like they did last year.

Playing plain vanilla D ain’t gonna cut it
