DB Play...
The DB group play was horrible.
The open seams in zone coverage were huge.
The Christian Gray armless rag-doll non-tackle was atrocious.
DB's have to be coached up to put themselves into a position to execute a tackle,
both physically and mentally at the point of attack.
Both of those flaws lead back to coaching.
This is on Mike Mickens as much as the players.

Their QB completed less than 50 % of his passes with pretty much no
pass rush. Hard to cover 5 plus seconds just about every time the QB threw.
The DB play does need to get better but the pass rush is horrific.
The lack of pass rush in back to back games is very concerning. ND D was supposed to be loaded.
I agree that D backs can’t cover forever when the QB has all day to throw. Some of the A&M receivers were running literally wide open. That’s also coaching or scheme or miscommunication because nobody should be wide open with no ND defender within 5-10 yards plus. Very disappointing start to the season that’s for sure. There is no margin of error now. They must run the table for any chance to make the playoffs. I really thought after last year the program would be a legit Top 5 team. I was wrong about that. I think the 0-2 start is really all on the coaches as there is very good talent on the roster. Last week while still no QB pressure from the ND defense, the offensive game plan was just horrible and I feel the main reason ND lost. This week, the defense was absolutely horrible.
Not saying DB play was great by any means but if they put a few hits on him back
there he might have been a 30 % passer. Go from one of the best defenses in the country to one of the worst in a year. I guess we’ll see with Purdue. Hopefully we keep them under 20.
The confusion is internet message board chatter vs. reality. ND hasn't been loaded at DL in decades
and ND hasn't shown anything close to being loaded since maybe Tuitt/Nix days. They were loaded when Lynch, Tuitt, Nix and Williams where there. But only Tuitt and Nix stayed and had a real impact. They ran Lynch off and Williams didn't materialize.
