We lost to two teams ranked in the top 10 (for now) by a total of 4 points.
Yes the defense looks bad but that, for me, is a leadership/experience issue having lost the top 4 leaders on defense plus Morrison.
Offense, in my opinion, presents as being better this year than last since it is more diverse.

Just curious because I don't see any.
Last year I called Mickens the 1st star (hockey reference) of the ND coaching staff. Seeing the linked video on Pete Sampson's Twitter stream pointing out (correctable, apparently) technique failures in the secondary makes me think that Ash is representative of a general failed preparation for the season that is indeed very reminiscent of Kelly's disastrous preparation for 2016. Similar issues too, such as QB competition, retaining a clearly failed DC and a general lack of leadership.)

There absolutely is the potential for the bottom to fall out here...
In very dangerous waters...
Not to say this couldn’t turn into a dumpster fire, but ND has $19 million reasons to prevent that.

A coordinator who was an analyst last year? We couldn’t pry a successful current DC to coach at a program that just played for a National title? I can understand not hiring someone like Mickens with no experience.
This is all in freeman and ash. Absolutely no doubt

After last years run it would be shocking if we couldn’t find better candidates. I just assumed this was who freeman wanted not a ‘well we need to get someone’ hire.

Thought the lesson was learned and filed with the hiring of Holtz.
Would never have believed what followed...if someone had suggested it in advance...

After all we were led to believe the talent is now at an elite level right? So it’s likely the coaching. Or lack therereof.
....he can recruit top level talent, but he just can't win the big games!

...improved consistency though.
Both of these games were winnable. Coming out of them 0-2 is disastrous...
