Looks like Haines was a whiff. In fairness, looking at his track he wasn't leaving Cignetti until

I really thought it'd be Mickens. It appears he couldn't have done any worse.

Make Ash a gofer.

I humbly disagree. There are family considerations w/ these coaches.

When you pull the plug on these assistants, you pull the plug on their families too. MF hired the guy. It was his choice. Now live with it at least till the season is over. To fire Coach Ash now would not make Marcus look very good and, on top of that, I'm not sure the administration would give the green light on it this early in the season. The best MF can do is get heavily involved with the defense for the remainder of the season. Something he should have done after Miami. He had to know all through camp what was going on. Just my opinion.

I think you can “fire him” without firing him. Take the keys to the Porsche before he wrecks it

More.

Look this is a dramatic drop off.

Let’s let Mickens test drive it. What do got to lose?

Be honest, do you really think without some sort of substantial change in results & likely philosophy the miraculous results will appear.

After 2 games, isn’t it pretty much zero confidence?

College sports isn’t Mother Theresa’s soup kitchen, everyone is a big boy, they know what they signed up for.

Just my 2 cents, as always I could be wrong

The season is still salvageable, but it starts Saturday…let’s keep the Porsche on the road…& floor it, Irish! 🍀🍀🍀

Hold on. Lots of people are let go I the first 90 days because of incompetence.

I have seen it happen

Yes his family is important but if he really is this bad it’s on him.

I don’t know if he deserves it or not but if freeman and the AD think he really needs to go for some reason then he needs to go.

VT, UCLA, and some small TN school already fired their coaches.

I understand other schools do it but I'm not sure ND would.

What's the point? You're not going to find a new DC to step right in 2 games in. Defense is MF's thing. Let him get involved without neglecting his other duties within the program. Stop with the TV interviews and speaking engagements so he has time to pull double duty. He, Ash, and the rest of the defensive staff can do this. At seasons end, MF can re-evaluate the situation.

Thread Level: 9

If he's really that bad, it's on MF for making the hire.

Don't need to fire him. Just take away play calling and oversight responsibilities.
