I know it's still possible but damn..2 straight good years stacked is something kelly could never do which always stalled the momentum.recruiting has picked up..the ad is on board..you have a qb..easy sell to clas of 27..class of 28 prospects..guys getting paid large coin..with a good run the 27 class sells itself .without wavering is a real thing..u needed back to back runs to get out of this cycle of a great season if the ball bounces your way ..turnovers etc once every 5 years..

Defense Rank from Elko to Golden. Surprise, MF D was 3 points short of the worst.
Elko was a drastic change, Lea took it a step further, Freeman unwound it, and Golden picked back up where Elko/Lea trended.
So, if MF was the outlier and MF hired Ash, who's to say if there was a bigger sample set of MF as DC we wouldn't all have been up in arms?

The FSU game that year isn't a good example. ND went up 3 scores and BK told both coordinators to
play conservative with 5 minutes left in the 3rd qtr. The O stopped attacking and the D played soft from that point on. FSU's comeback was squarely on BK's shoulders.

Ultimately, Freeman is a great front man. I have concerns he has a solid plan of
what he wants from the team. There is too much variability year-to-year. Even his comments about now holding people to a standard is concerning. Standards need to be met ongoing with no mercy.
