Notre Dame fans this week:
- Sunday: good thing I don’t even like football.
- Monday: life is miserable. We suck. Fire Chris Ash.
- Tuesday: I mean I guess we did lose our two hardest games by a total of 4 points. The new QB is looking good.
- Wednesday: But humor me, what if we went 10-2?
- Thursday: No way we lose again. 100% playoff lock at 10-2. We ride at dawn.
I don’t believe for a moment we’ll finish 10-2 especially if Ash continues as DC.
In fact, we might as well enjoy tomorrow’s game because after next week, I feel we’ll be 1-3 to start the season after a visit to Fayetteville.
Don't be concerned about the Arkansas game. My daughter and I will be at the game and we have never attended a Notre Dame game since her graduation that was not an Irish victory...including USC and road games at Oklahoma and last year's Sugar Bowl. Freeman should send us tickets for every game as well as air fare and a Hotel voucher.
If you are ticked off, better to give it 24 hours. Not that it would help with angry part but at least you can be fairly objective in criticism once the initial rage subsides.

Than any other coach in ND history and just came off a fantastic playoff run.
I understand ND plays more games now and the Top 25 is a relatively modern invention, but we also have yet to be blown out under his tenure. The biggest defeat margin is 13.
I am disappointed with the start of the season, but ND has played 3 straight Top 15 teams and has lost by 15 pts combined
...but I do hear you...

Until we see the defense improve, there's no way this team will win 10 straight games.

Existing scheme with high end interior DL seems like it would have worked A-OK.
But practice it against bad teams. Not top 20 ones. Heck the Detroit Lions played a ton of man last year. And it worked just fine.
I think they wanted to go to a more ball control scheme offensively and defensively. Control the pace of the game against teams like USC and OSU. Stop big plays. Make them work underneath. Or at least an ability to do it. Makes sense. But you have to be able to run it effectively. Or it's a disaster like we see.
ND has the athletes to play man. So play man.

You have to be able to put up points. You can’t beat all the good teams and win all your games by shortening the game.
It’s almost admitting u won’t score points or u are too afraid to try.
Alabama had lock down defenses AND scored points. So whatever it took they could do it.

Tressel ball would work at times but it’s not an overall strategy.
We have too much talent for that. Score points.
More so than ball control and slow playing the other teams offense. That's a strategy for teams with less talent than their opponents.
Playing with great effort and coaching and losing is one thing.
Playing with great effort while shitting the bed with horrendous coaching on both sides of the ball is quite another.
I feel exactly as I did after the A&M game.

It's worked for me over and over again for many decades of being an ND alum.

that contributed to ND being able to win out as they hardly gave up many points with the exception of USC. I guess everyone has a bad day but ND still won that game. Fast forward to this season, something is just messed up with Ash. It can't all be lack of execution as MF says because it's all levels of the defense that have been really bad. To me, that falls back on coaching and scheme. For all the guys back on the defense, there's no reason to go from a very good and highly ranked defense last year to one that is near the bottom in every statistical category this season.
To be honest, starting a new QB and all, I really thought that at worst, ND goes 1-1 after the first two games. None of us expected 0-2. And so far based on the eye test of an Ash coached defense, I have no faith the defense is going to play elite enough to the point where ND runs the table because I'm sure there will be a game out there where the offense just has a bad day and will need the defense to help carry them. I still can't believe we are all having this conversation and it's only mid-September!!! Lol.
The zone isn't working. They have people running free, giving too much space. They're not making contact as the ball arrives. They're not breaking on the ball, reading the QB. If they want to play zone they need to teach it better or get guys who already know how to play it. And they're doing neither.
This isn't to say they ran zone well under Golden. They didn't. But he was dumb enough to commit to it as a primary part of the defense.
If they go back to man, I'd expect an immediate reversal of this idiocy. A top 10 D.
You sure as heck don't run a scheme you don't know you're able to run against top 20 opponents. Mix it in, run it as you can. Don't just commit to it hell or high water.
A combination of a passive zone and passive pass rush is a recipe for disaster as we've seen.
Oh and play your best players. KVA and Tae Johnson need to start.
