There is maybe...maybe...a 1% chance Notre Dame fails to make the playoffs if they go 10-2. As always, one or two teams on the remaining schedule will come through with a good season and these will be considered good wins.
The only thing I see derailing this for the 1% is if no one turns out to be any good and we have too many squeakers. Other than that, a top-10 ranking is almost assured.
Their QB is good, one of the best in the country but their D is awful. The D backfield is one of the worst SC has had in years…. They are horrible
I understand there is lots of football to be played. But ND will likely not have a quality win (beat a team in the top 10 or even top 15) to offset two quality losses.
The selection rules are different this year than last and you know that means "over-correcting" for last year. The emphasis this year will be on SOS as well as quality wins since many teams will have quality losses. Unless both Miami and A&M win their conferences, we are pretty much cooked since we have almost no possibilities for a quality win(and we might need 2) About the only possible quality win left is vs USC and USC would have to run the table on the rest of their schedule, which based on what I've seen of them, isn't likely. And we'll know more about that nest week.
It is what it is. I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic. We all knew a transition year was in store with a new qb lacking in any experience, a new coordinator, lots of talent but little experience and a major loss in leadership, especially on defense.

to your tuition question.
So there is a good reason to fret.
against the USC offense. If ND can’t get pressure on the USC QB, USC will score a bunch of points as they have really good WR’s and ND will need to win the shootout.

A poster or two noticed Ash did not have a play sheet, unlike the first three games. If that's really what happened then he seems to no longer be in charge of playcalling. That could well explain Arkansas.

Arkansas was a really bad defensive team, but with an explosive offense under Petrino. QB Taylen Green is 8th nationally in passing yds and 7th in QBR. Arkansas lost away to now #4 Ole Miss 41-35 and Green was 22-35 for 305 yds passing and rushed 14 times for 115 yds. Scoring was not an issue until Saturday against ND.

One of the most explosive offenses I have seen at ND.
…on principle.
