Conference Officials

When football conferences were regional, it made sense to hire officials who lived/worked within the conference geography.

With conferences strectching from sea to shining sea now, the need for conference officials is no longer. We should just have college officials with no conference affiliation or bias.

For far too many years, ND has been compromised by officials who ostensibly were unibiased but, in reality, seemed more intent of supporting the team that was actually paying their salaries.

Yesterdays game was as bad an officiated game as I have ever witnessed. They enforced 24 penalties many at the most inopportune times for ND. This was a 42-7 game held to 28-7 by the most inept, or biased team of officials on earth.

The "roughing the passer" call, in the fourth quarter, may have been the worst I have ever witnessed. But the entire game was a debacle. To their credit, Boise State never quit and played hard for 60 minutes. But their "12th man" kept them in the game much longer than they should have.

The best part was he wasn't even a passer, he was a runner

And both feet were in bounds when he was grabbed and thrown out of bounds by the defender. The actual roughing the passer when he was in the pocket was equally as bad.

There should be no conference officials. Is there any way for ND to use Ivy League officials.

Perhaps that would be the first step…my guess is other teams would feel the same way as ND, especially in big games out of conference.

Just my 2 cents, and always I could be wrong.

God bless everyone & Go Irish 🍀

For non-conference games, officials are totally negotiable.

Officiating was absolutely horrible. The roughing the QB was a joke. Then one of our guys got called

a late hit out of bounds when he initiated in bounds. A Boise guy had basically the same type of tackle against ND and there was no call. It’s bad enough when there’s horrible officiating but if they are going to be horrible, just be consistent at being horrible. It does feel like over the last few seasons ND gets more bad calls against them. The ACC officials are so bad when we play ACC teams.

Agreed, but those were Big 12 officials

Several of the penalties were ridiculous, but it's was the non-calls that was more annoying, especially with the blatant holding right in front of several officials, that was all but ignored.

You could even see BSU linemen tugging on the defenders' jerseys 3 feet away.

Stadium announcers said ACC refs

I thought the visiting team brought their conference refs?

The replay booth would be manned by ACC officials, though, if my memory serves me correctly?

I think they were just bad officials. As in really bad.

it was beyond egregious and completely agree: it should have been 42-7.

But you can tell Jason wanted to start expressing his opinion on these calls.

On a holding call, he commented "that's a little ticky tack for me." For him in his position, in front of a national audience, those are pretty strong words.

The "late hit" and "roughing the passer" should have been called out.

Both were indisputably terrible, wrong calls that not a single competent official at the high school level or above would have made. They were so blatantly terrible that the analyst on the broadcast crew should be identifying them as such.

No different than Jim Lampley calling out incompetent scorecards on occasion in years past on HBO Boxing.

On radio, Ryan Harris did not hold back at all. He was livid, like many of us.
