You're right, but Ash's earlier defense was based off a loose zone
He'd drop defenders back into either a medium or deep zone, using relaxed coverage.
While that worked for him at tOSU, the Buckeyes had plenty of early round draft picks all along the defensive line, that they could simply rush four and get plenty of pressure and force bad throws.
We don't have that level of developed defensive line talent ready to play right now, and it showed for those first few games.
