Will Love break the all time single season rushing record this year with playoff games?

The single season record is Vagas' 1,437 in 1979.

Would the extra playoff games count towards this record?

Love currently has 758 yds and at this pace will be around 1,300 at the end of the regular season. A couple of playoff games would put him over the top. Do you think this is a possibility?

No. I just want to see him in NYC for the Heisman ceremony.

I don't think Love gets in the Heisman finalist group unless he gets to/or close to the ND record.

Averaging 80 yd/game rushing does not even get him in the top 50 in rushing. But to break the ND record he would be well over 100 rushing yd/game and his TDs and receiving yds would be impressive too.

So, do you think Freeman gives him more touches to pad his stats for the Heisman, or do they shut him down in the second halves to save him for the Playoffs? Team Glory is the mantra, but winning a Heisman would be huge for ND!

To win a HT, I think he'd need to avg 200+ rushing yds per game rest of regular season

to get close to Derrick Henry's numbers (well in excess of the ND record), but maybe he'd get credit for all purpose yards. So, that doesn't strike me as realistic particularly given the way they are working he and Price into games. And I don't see MF adjusting carries to put him in the top 3 mix. If it happens, it will happen organically.

I do think he can make it into the top 5 with the numbers you suggest plus all purpose yards, which is probably attainable with our remaining schedule.

I noticed the last two games he's doing less acrobatics and he's running with more purpose, so we'll see. His motivation may be more draft status than HT, particularly since I've seen him projected top 10 and as high in some cases as top 5.

Correct, it is a long shot. But currently Love is 6th in rushing in the Nation, 2nd in TDs.

(ironically, Price is third in scoring nationally) USC was Love's first big game and it made a lot of noise. I think if he even averages 100+ yards a game and ND is a top 10 team, he will have a shot because he will lead all Power 5 rushers and the face of ND (besides Freeman), and now the consensus BEST RB in the nation.

NOTE: I think Love passes Hardy, because Mizzou will be playing real SEC defenses the rest of the season and last week shows how Hardy will be shut down against SEC opponents. Teams will stop Mizzou's rushing attack and force Pribula to pass.

Pushing Bama qb a lot on the sports talk shows? Rags to riches story line with the team.

Bama will lose and he will be thrown under the bus immediately.

Remember how joyously the sports talk people promoted the demise of Bama. DeBoer was the hottest of hot seats just 5 games ago.

He should go for 1500+ but the problem is Freeman limiting carries! 9-1 w/14+ carries

If he averages 17-18 carries for the rest of the year he smashes the record and has a few more 150+ games.

Last year after 7 games he was averaging a paltry 11 carries/gm and so far this year he is up to 17.7 carries/gm.

Limited carries is a feature not a bug. The Love/Price combo elevates their indiv. stats.

It's good for durability, but Love averaging 11 carries doesn't enhance his stats

Chances of running for 150+ or 20+ are slim to none touching the ball 10-13 times a game. That's just common sense

Probably not

Like BaronVonZemo stated, teams are going to stack the box to take away the easy running yardage. I think last week showed every defensive coordinator out there that playing Cover 2 against us isn't going to work unless you have a defensive line the likes of what tOSU brought / bought last year.

I'm guessing that Aneyas Williams and Nolan James will be taking on a much bigger load to give Love and Price some rest. This is where I really wish Kedren Young were available, since we really could have used a true big man.

I'm OK with this, since we have a viable passing game that can make the teams who play 8 man fronts pay a terrible price, and we'll see more of a downfield passing game.

Also, this way, our RB's will be much healthier than they were last year when the playoffs came around.

Last year, Love was both banged up, and dealing with the flu during the Indiana and Georgia games. Even after he was over the flu against Penn State, he was still hobbled.

Another 200+ game would likely have to happen. I can see that at B.C.

I can see two more games of 140+ , and if one of them is 180+ he can certainly do it

Doubt it. Shares w Price and Carr can throw too, & after USC, we will see all 8 man fronts imo.

Those 8 man fronts wouldn't last long with Carr settling down and throwing quick darts

BYU kept stacking the box with 8, in order to focus on stopping Darius Walker, and the Brady Quinn to Maurice Stovall combination burnt them.

Stovall kept manhandling that much smaller cornerback on those quickouts, and after several big gains on those quickouts, Quinn pump faked to him (Stoval threw his hands up like he was about to catch the ball), and then Stovall burnt the guy on a deep route.

It does count and is truly amazing because of his shared backfield time. Price and Love as one
