Should Stanford consider Kelly?

He can probably get them 8 wins a year, which would be an improvement.

Why?

Give Andrew Luck a little more credit than that.

Pat Fitzgerald would be a home run hire, IMO, assuming Fitzgerald is looking for a new gig.

Fitzgerald has baggage as well. Luck is unproven as a GM.

Some baggage

He got effed over by an over-zealous admin who made a hasty, knee-jerk reaction, for which he ultimately received a very generous settlement.

He built a great program at a school with high academic requirements. He would be perfect for Stanford.

Most likely very true. The settlement amount was huge. NW acknowledged he was unaware of the hazing

Public perception is still a factor. Fitz acknowledged that hazing was going on. He pretty much proved he was not aware of it.
But cynics will say it speaks to the issue of culture. His players were dead wrong and his coaches looked the other way.

I don't judge the guy. I am merely pointing out that he might be less than the perfect hire.

Is in the eyes of the beholder.

Thread Level: 5

That's true. But Luck just canned a HC with baggage. He doesn't really need Fitzgerald.

From everything I am reading about him at LSU

He seemed to have the same issues there that he had at ND. Doesn't care about recruiting, distant, arrogant, out-of-control temper, unlikeable. Basically, even though he's only 64, he seems to have checked out.

Stanford wouldn't want that kind of headache.

Still gets talent. ACC much easier than SEC. Short term expectations will be tolerable.

Sign him for 5 years @ $7-8 Million per year.

I am not at all convinced Kelly gets Stanford 8 wins.

Agreed. This isn't the Pac-12 anymore.

Back when the Pac-12 was in its death throes, I think he could have had some decent success.

After all, he did this with Cincinnati back when the Big East was in its final stages, and essentially being the weakest power conference out there.

Now that Stanford is in the ACC, I doubt that he'd be able to replicate his success, unless he managed to actually find and develop a few superstars.
