The 5 highest ranked conference champions are guaranteed a playoff spot. P4 conference champion winner alone does not guarantee a spot.
Imagine this scenario. Duke could make it to the ACC championship game. If they win, they would likely not get a playoff invite, opening the door for multiple Group of Six conference champions.

So I am reading this as the ACC champion is guaranteed a spot.

A P4 conference championship does not guarantee a playoff spot. Again, it is the five highest ranked conference champions that are guaranteed a spot. That might not include the ACC champion. My example of Duke - far fetched as it may be - shows that the ACC champ might not get a playoff spot.
