"In an interesting wrinkle, as part of a memorandum of understanding signed by CFP officials last spring, Notre Dame will be assured of making the playoff if it is ranked in the top 12 starting next year, Bevacqua tells Yahoo Sports. For instance, if this year’s circumstances unfold next year, the final at-large team (Miami) would have gotten automatically bumped from the field for No. 11 Notre Dame."
"If the playoff is expanded to 14 teams and there are more at-large berths added to the field (from seven to nine), Notre Dame is guaranteed into the field if it is ranked No. 13 or better, according to the MOU."

to get their desired outcome, instead of just ranking the teams honestly and ethically and letting the results of that be what they are.
They shouldn't even be considering how a ranking change will affect a team in the CFP bracket, they should be doing it in two isolated phases 1) rank the teams honestly based on results with zero concern for the bracket 2) after ranking is complete, apply the CFP rules to that ranking 3) never adjust the ranking in an artificial way to manipulate the end result.
The committee failed epically today, in discharging their duties in an unbiased and ethical manner.
If they can get away with it here they can get away with it then. They should all be terminated from the committee for lack of trust and confidence.
They rank in order, then form the brackets. They also have explicit bracketing rules. Granted, they have more room for nuance with 68 vs 12, but it is clear Alabama was protected against any scenario. Hell, watching a podcast now, they are not only dumbfounded Alabama didn't move, they are shocked Georgia's win was meaningless, as they also didn't move. So what again was the point of the SEC Championship game?

Lucy and Charlie Brown scenario.
POS
Precedent was set that they can wiggle the teams around however they want if they need to. ACC needed a team in and Bama wasn’t going to be the first team out 2 years in a row. If a similar scenario is needed moving forward, we will be the pawn.

ND cannot expect a playoff berth with more than one loss, ever.
screwed us. They were bad the last four weeks at least. What happened to rewarding the teams looking stronger at the end of the year.
Obviously, it would be a long shot, but after seeing what transpired the last two weeks, I think anything is possible.
