The Big East, here we (should) come

Always a better fit anyway. No football for other members to whine about like the ACC shits do. Fuck the ACC bowl connection - it’s no longer relevant.

The Big East was a better fit for all other sports. And it is not a farcical conference that includes remnants of the PAC 10.

Why not Big 10? Seems they'd be able to help football too. With an ACC like agreement

Also, they would insist on football too.

Ok, but if the revenue is similar why not football?

We would become a slightly better Northwestern.

Ask Nebraska how they are doing.

...unless maybe to dump their also-rans on you...

Historically, and for a lot of other reasons, I would love a Big East affiliation.

The posts here are ignoring the reality of what is going on in football IF ND wants to compete for championships.

If they don't...then BIG East and a football schedule consisting almost entirely of marshmallows is certainly an option.

Let's join a group of 6 conference. Get that bid every year.

I'm sure they'll be more than happy to allow ND to remain independent.

I disagree with the worries about scheduling.

Notre Dame is always a draw. Plenty of of teams across the nation to fill the dance card.

It's not about being able to merely fill out the dance card. It's about being able to produce a meaningful Football schedule year in and year out that will allow an opportunity into (or another chance to get screwed out of) the playoffs.

ND needs at least 3 real top programs on the card...and one in November ideally...

The conference powerhouses will not want to accommodate that.

Sure, all the weak sisters will line up for the draw and payout of an ND game...

What just occurred was always our worst fear…losing 2 games as an independent with no conference affiliation. It’s only going to get worse.

The ACC deal allowed us to fill up half the schedule with at least reasonable, if sometimes lackluster, opponents.

Trying to fill all 12 spots with a "strong enough" schedule with big games slotted throughout will not be possible over time.

What was just done...was done with purpose. The same message will be delivered through future scheduling as well.

ND's football independence needs to be squashed...

Thread Level: 3

I doubt that. ND brings lots of cash.

I doubt ND will have a hard time finding 12 teams that want the Irish to come to their stadium every other year. Many will still want a marquee out-of-conference game,

Some conferences might try to block it. We will see.

This shit ought to just harden ND's determination to stay out of the conference cesspools.

Most play two of the big hitters, and no one of consequence out of conference.

And the Big 12 is worse. Just a farce.

Trying to see whether the traditional conference structure breaks first or ND is forced to join a conference.

Unfortunately, I don't think the timing lines up. That said, if I were ND, I would join a placeholder conference before joining the Big10 or SEC. Those will eventually get blown up, and seeing how the various joiners are treated over the years in the BIG and SEC, you are basically signing up for at least a decade of second class citizenship.

F That.
