I asked AI where ND would have been ranked using the old BCS system:

Notre Dame would have been ranked No. 9 using the old Bowl Championship Series (BCS) system.
This is the same ranking the Fighting Irish (10-2) received in the final College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings for the current 2025 season. The primary difference under the old BCS formula is that Notre Dame would have been ranked ahead of No. 10 Alabama (9-3), whereas the CFP committee ranked Alabama ahead of the Irish.

That's the crux of the issue. Alabama was behind ND and then was placed ahead of them with zero...

...justification for doing so off of the Auburn performance.

The purpose of that move was to drop Notre Dame out of the playoffs...pure and simple.

Agree. The Miami narrative was a red herring.

It's not either or. Both ND and Miami belong in the CFP.

The biggest problem is the SEC getting 5 spots. 12 team playoff is fine if one conference

Doesn't get nearly half the spots. f you can't finish top 2, you should be eliminated. If you don't like it, don't join a conference.
