SEC, CCG Loser, and breaking the system

In a USA Today article from late November, the writer - Mat Hayes - wrote about the prospect of the SEC runner up getting kept out of the CFP:

"A scenario like that — which isn’t that far from unfolding — would force the SEC into fight or flight, to take its ball and go home with its television partner (ESPN) that runs the sport, and start an SEC-only playoff. It’s not like they haven’t threatened to do so before. In fact, Sankey defiantly said not long ago that it wasn’t a threat."

He ends by writing:

"Because if the nightmare scenario of the SEC runner-up missing the CFP unfolds, all options are on the table. Including the SEC taking their ball and going home."

The repeated use of the idea of "taking your ball and going home" is one that I've seen a lot of ND haters spewing since we declined the bowl bid. I find it interesting that so many haters are accusing us of sour grapes when the idea that the SEC could blow up the whole system if their CCG loser got kept out has been out there for quite some time. I haven't seen many ND defenders pointing this out.

Does anyone know if there are any "more solid" statements from Sankey or other SEC administrators that could better highlight this issue? Something that ND fans can point to directly and say, "You say we have sour grapes? You do understand that the SEC has basically said they will blow up the whole system if their runner up is kept out, right? So who really is the villain here?"

Just curious.

"Any" game with NO consequences is equally as meaningless as a game with no reward.

Right, why would anyone risk their starters in a meaningless game?

Yes, success is in the battle not the result. Given a chance is the success, we were screwed out of

What bullshit. The SEC and all other conferences created championship games to cash in. They would have no one to blame but themselves.

If a team was exposed in those greed games as being shit - like Alabama - they should pay the price.

^^^”this”^^^ - if your conference is to tough join another weaker conference and be alpha dog there.
