Jim Phillips of ACC doubles down on how things were handled. Thank you sir, may we have another.

Said ND is not a conference member in football though the Irish fill ACC stadiums at a much better clip than games without ND playing. ND will be treated like second class citizens and apparently, we're going to just take it.

Maybe, he knows something we don't know and it was a parting shot?

ND is a member in all other sports except hockey. Phillips should treat them as such. And even though ND is not a member in football, they are a partner in that they have an agreement to play a specified number of games against ACC teams every year.

ACC looked like fools.

Instead of pitting ND versus Miami they should have been screaming for both teams to get in at the expense of Alabama, JMU, and Tulane.

Of course. But they wouldn't have had ESPN's collaborative collusion.

ESPN would not have gone to the lengths they did to simply rob Peter to pay Paul. They lose the same value if either Alabama or Miami is out. They only way to get them on board was to mutually attack us.

Part of the purpose of the presser was to de-escalate this. “We’ll deal with it later.”

Pete basically reiterated his points from calls yesterday. He was careful not to speak negatively of teams or programs but of the process.

And when questioned about what ND wants from the ACC he passed on an apology and said we’ll deal with it later. The ACC head did issue something of an apology earlier in the day, so that was a “hey douche, apology not accepted.”

I feel like there’s more to the ACC thing than just this. He did say that all relationships can be fixed. But it seems like ND wants to extract a price.

He was measured. He has to be in that position. But this was certainly a message that this isn’t over. I don’t think it was a coincidence that he specifically mentioned he talked to the SEC commissioner.

And that ND’s ire was exclusively with the process and lack of transparency.

I didn’t say it was the exclusive purpose, but part of the purpose.

The other part of the purpose is to tell the ACC they are on thin ice and we’ll deal with them later.

Noticeable for what he didn’t say as well.

The price may be fewer football games with ACC teams

It is a fair point to ask whether Notre Dame actually can extract the price

Let the ACC pay that price. It’s one they won’t like.
