In his first season he lost @Tosu by 11 in his second game ever as a HC, with Tyler Buchner at QB. Then he lost the next game to a Marshall team that went 9-4, with Buchner knocked out of game with broken shoulder.
In his second season he started 4-0 before losing a nail biter literally in the last seconds to Tosu, then got upset by Louisville in game #7 past the halfway point of the season
In his third season he lost the only actually concerning early season game to NIU, in a letdown after a big road win vs A&M
This season we started out vs 2 playoff teams, with a brand new DC and first time QB and lost @Miami where we haven't won since 1977 by a last minute FG and vs A&M by 1 point off a bumbled snap by Tyler Buchner [biting my tongue, isn't it time for him to move on?]
Jim Rome would say, Scoreboard. I love this team and this coach. Part of me feels like they are not fully prepared when the season begins. They start slowly. I'm not sure how they fix it but I believe it's fixable.
Need to not be so conservative starting out.
ND got hosed without a doubt.
But ND had no quality win opportunities to offset the loses.
Getting shut out of the playoffs was the convergence of Power 4 cronyism and bad luck
