if he takes the spring semester off to train for the combine, which has become the increasingly popular thing to do.

I think he could put up big numbers if he gets the reps.
The two freshmen are supposed to be good enough to compete for carries as well, but we'll see.
Rumors I recall were Young was possibly ahead of Williams prior to the injury. I might be remembering that wrong though. Either of them will be good as 1&2. Williams just makes plays when he's in the game, I'm hoping he stays and gets his shot.
Good things were said about Nolan James out of camp.
Knees are usually roughly 9 month recoveries now. He was injured in August, so he might do some things in spring depending on his rehab, probably not contact though.
So he should be ready for fall camp.
Lots of chatter that he may hit the portal.
We are loaded at RB talent wise so if Williams stays, we won't be using the portal. If Williams leaves, the portal might be used.
He's RB1 in 2026.
This chatter has been around for 2 months so I doubt it is a money thing.

He knows where he stands at ND. If he goes, it won't be over money. Williams is more "valuable" to ND than he is to any other team. So the idea that another team is going to pony up big bucks to define the outcome when William's chief gripe may be playing time is a major stretch.
