Question: If joining a conference is so great, why do so many sue to get out of them …

… or threaten to sue or leave because they don’t like the rules, or because they don’t like their contract because they think they deserve more money, or they just move on to another conference when they believe their current relationship no longer suits them and is no longer in their best interest?

Imagine the headlines if Notre Dame jumped from conference to conference or signed a contract to be in a conference and then sued to leave the conference.

They act like spoiled brats and then want to call you spoiled for not wanting to jump into the same cesspool. Every school does what they feel is in their best interest, but somehow it is a problem when Notre Dame does what it feels is best. Why would Notre Dame want to jump into litigation, or the realignment morass when they can see with their own eyes what has been happening?

I do not hate schools just because they are in a conference, that is their choice to do so, and I do not begrudge any school which works in their own best interest, but it is a bit rich for other schools to claim all the moves they have made have not been calculated to be in their own interest.

If misery loves company, it almost seems as if they want Notre Dame to join in that misery, and they resent that Notre Dame has chosen not to do so. If I didn’t know any better, I’d believe these calls to “help” Notre Dame join a conference are not rooted in genuine concern for Notre Dame’s best interests. Honestly, it would not surprise me at all if at least a couple of those folks pushing for Notre Dame to join a conference actually were not fond of Notre Dame at all—but that’s just me.

those who left to pursue their own interest. There were also many teams who were once independent and chose to pursue what they felt was in their own interest. The point is they only seem to whine when Notre Dame does not pursue the interests of its rivals. That is the hate they have chosen.

Psychologically it’s the difference between “independence” and “dependence.”

This is even more an issue in the political arena.

Ironically it’s the Dems who stand for “individuality” of the players!

Comrades! Focus on the Collective!

To each according to his needs.

An ND grad can’t afford $96/ year? Seriously?
