Take the top 16 teams, cancel the conference championships which are just a money grab.
At the very least make participation in conference championship games optional (teams will opt out, and let em. It’s all about the playoff. Just like hoops is all about March.)
Don’t take the conference champs, agree to take 1 team from Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, & ACC. (That way the committee is free to take Miami over Duke, and Miami is free not to play in the conference championship game, if they wish).
Let the group of 5 have their own tournament & they can use the lessor bowls (that as of now no big school wants to attend)
I say we go to 8 teams with a max of 1 per conference.
