incoming class and the transfer portal.
unable to truly recruit and develop frontline talent at WR.
If a kid isn't willing to sit and learn, and isn't entirely sold on the school, they're gone. But you do get a year to evaluate them, and keep the good ones.
ND will probably will lose slower developers.
Just look at safety with Johnson and Blair. That's the way of college sports now. You go get your depth from the portal. Or the kids who are sold on the school. Unless you're Indiana or Tex Tech who seem to rely entirely on the portal.
It does appear though that ND has to start treating this more as a school run business than avenue for educating young athletes. Because that's what it is. You're either in or your not.
start, but he won't ever beat them as well. This NIL is out of control and needs to be capped or something. The problem is that whatever the NCAA does to stop the insanity, you can bet some kid with his attorney will sue the NCAA and win and get their way. This hopping around every year to highest bidder is just insane. I just don't know how it gets fixed, if it ever gets fixed.
At your discretion unlimited. And then 1 more time if there's an institutional reason.

room development or the playbook. WR is the one position where young guys rarely start or play meaningful snaps.
I don't like it either, but this isn't a ND problem.

This year's team was better from a pure talent perspective than last year's.
On top of that, it was a great recruiting class.
Way too much angst (and blaming NIL $$) over guys leaving who weren't on the first team.
Way too much angst over portal players choosing other schools.

Hardly a difference-maker.

Irish Nation wept over the loss of Nick Marsh, a Sophomore WR that many in Irish Nation never even heard of until recently. 117th in receiving yards. 12 games. 61 catches for 661 and 7 TDs. I do know this, Indiana got our Heisman,. Indiana may get our title that ND has been trying to get back since 1988. IU has taken our transfer guys and portal guys. Meanwhile, we were flying pretty high with the recent recruiting success and the re-signing of Marcus. Now we seem to hit a brick wall. As Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes once screamed from her window .."What's goin' on"?, I have to ask myself the same question with our transfer / portal success or lack of.
ND recruits high school players really well. Schools like IU rely on the portal.
