I suppose if has broken the SEC stranglehold on college football... and I have enjoyed watching the performances of our transferees the past couple years.
But I feel like I'm "almost" cheering on a minor league franchise located on my alma mater's campus.
If most end up graduating I can live with it.
The seediness of the sport was always there; it's now just a lot more so. It'll get increasingly ridiculous to have pro football be part of a college's "academic mission," but the money is too good for any meaningful change. I'd imagine it's quite akin to being a drug dealer.
I agree that while the games are just as enjoyable to watch now as they've ever been, it all feels too commercial, overblown and detached, and the overall appeal of the sport in general will likely wane over time.
Or, if you aren't, you will be soon. We are witnessing the destruction of college sports...a slow-motion train wreck that many people are pretending is not happening.
For years, we could not compete with academics and dirty money. Now, the country will be our bitch. No more Bama and Georgia controlling all the 5 stars on the bench. How do u like dem apples?
Look at Utah, who basically sold its FB program and the management thereof to private equity. Once that happens all over, then this is all just kabuki theater and these are brands loosely affiliated with the schools being managed by for-profit entities.
Then I would prefer to see them step away from this madness...much as it pains me to say it.
but I am competitive which is what I want my university to be. Pro sports are still worse.
Maybe they’re right…but I doubt it.
Has nothing to do with “being competitive”
Colleges are failing us all on a great many levels.
day and too many colleges give A's like candy, without having the students ready for their work.
We'll follow the trend to fill that monstrosity. Jenks and Jacko made sure of that.

College Football needed changes. Becoming a semi-pro league of constant free agents with less and less connections to actual students and the schools...wasn't it.
today to still mostly sell the 40 year plan.

It is the cost of doing business in the NCAA today. You either adapt to the prevailing conditions on the ground or die. I personally hate all this, but these are the rules.
We're not yet a revolving door like some schools.
