teams will lose. In 1977 our national title team lost to somebody that was a 30 point underdog and still won the title. Also other teams lose. Indiana this year barely escaped a Penn State team without their star QB. You have to be both lucky and good to go 12-0. I do think we have a better than average chance to do that and hopefully we will play every game like it is a must win. Even great teams have 1 to 3 bad days and those are the ones that if you hang in there and win, you have a chance for the title.

Ara had one unbeaten, untied season and Lou had one unbeaten, untied season.

Plus who knows how schedules shake out.

homer theory. Of course I root for things to come out well for us. I also have said things like Georgia is the team to beat, or the SEC is/was the best conference. That does not sound like a homer to me. Yes, at my age I still get fired up every week we play. I got extra annoyed this year because we have the second longest winning streak in the nation, with our average victory around 28 points and were playing great football with a real shot at winning the whole thing. I did say I thought we could/would whip Indiana but that was enthusiasm carried away more than being a homer. A team Alabama, got in playing horribly the last four out of five games they played, and only beat another overrated team, Oklahoma, that I objectively felt we were better than. I think that is objective and the only thing that could possibly label me a homer was I wouln't have cared so much if somebody else got screwed instead of us. I also said Miami deserved to be ranked and in the tourney ahead of us. Don't criticize by calling me a homer, criticize if you disagree. I have admitted in the past when I am wrong and will always do so.

I guarantee I keep my cool regarding a loss because I know flukey things happen in sports and sometimes you get beat by a better team that day.

But that’s ok. You’re a homer. One of the biggest on the board. And you make shit up like me saying I like Michigan multiple times. That one is bizarre and I attribute to your advancing age. Now if you said I thought Georgia was good. Or in years past I thought Florida was good. Sure. But I have no affinity whatsoever for Michigan other than thinking the Lake Michigan coastline and the upper Peninsula is gorgeous. I respect that you’re an ND grad. I can understand your homerism because of that. Sorry that I’m not a big enough homer for you. There has been a ton of disappointing ND football in the last 20+ years. Freeman appears to be an incredible hire though I think he relies heavily on his two coordinators and has been given incredible leeway from admissions compared to recent coaches dating back to Holtz being run off.

If I dig deeper, I probably could find similar seasons like that under Ara, Leahy, and maybe even Rock. There's going to come a time when ND will be hard pressed to schedule anybody for the crime of being independent. I feel a collusion is underfoot against our Irish. I haven't heard anything. I haven't read anything. I just feel it.

...which were, in each case, 1, 2, 3, and 9 when the Irish played them (Miami, USC, WVU & Michigan).

Penn State, Pitt and MSU were on that schedule, all having down years.

I had to look that up after reading your post, because I remembered that year having some tough teams on the schedule. Not really disagreeing with your point because several of those teams were independent, and they no longer are; and, WVU wasn't scheduled (being our bowl opponent). You just prompted me to take a look.

Auburn is dog shit. So is Clemson.

Texas will be fun, but they are soft as shit. Alabama will be hot garbage by then.
