Instead of congratulating the US and then backing away, the Canadian coach tossed this excuse out there and then followed it up with more words to cover up his excuse.
Essentially saying, "It's a shame that we lost because of this reason, but I'm not saying that this is the reason that we lost".
By merely broaching the topic, he was making an excuse.

USA won and I'm crying. Canada is crying. Sure, USA won and deserved the gold medal. But if you watched the game, Canada played a much better game, yet lost. That's why it was such a heartbreaker for Canada. Hocky is Canadian so get off my lawn (or my ice, to be more precise). BTW, kudos to the American goaltender.

Wow - just wow. I am not a puckhead but I have to say that I have never seen a game played so fast. Outrageously intense action that reflected the passion and desire on both sides. Any other day I would be cheering for Canada.
