May his badass spirit rest in peace, and may he watch over Notre Dame for eternity.

engagements. At the second talk he said, "Have we met before?" I said, "Yes, Coach, about a year ago at one of your talks in Arizona." I about dropped my teeth that he even vaguely remembered me. I gave him his space while he prepared for the talk, so conversation was minimal. I started rustling through some papers for a minute. I had brought an 8x12 of ND stadium all lit up at night. I said, "Coach Holtz would you......" and he interrupted me, and I thought he might holler at me since he was preparing. He said, "I was waiting for you to ask. Bring it over here. I'd be happy to sign it. I dropped another set of teeth. That broke the ice and we talked about all things ND for 20 minutes before he got called to talk. What a man. What a coach. You're always in my prayers, Lou. Rest in peace.
But keep an eye on us and maybe give the ball a nudge or two if needed to bring home what they robbed you of seeing before you left us.

He came out of his office and she introduced me to him and I could see him look at me and measure me with his eyes. I must have passed the eye test because he then said you are welcome here if you are a friend of Jan's. He let me in his office. He had just gotten done being interviewed by the CBS game announcers, which included Jim Nantz, who came out chuckling as he must have been amused with the time he was in his office. Coach was charming and genuine.

My thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family of Coach Holtz.
No doubt there are many individuals who have a story to tell about Coach Holtz even if only it were a brief interaction. This is mine.

You will not be forgotten. Met him twice, basically just in passing at events, but he was a class act all the time.
