Love's draft possibilities just shifted

KC, one of his logical destinations, signed Walker. If NO doesn't take him @ 8, he slips to Cowboys, Texans, Vikings or ultimately Seattle unless somebody (i.e. Titans) trades into the 1st.

They signed those players because he won’t last until #8.

Where he gets picked is not indicative of his talent level. Someone has to need a RB

And if they don’t need a back, they won’t take him just because of his talent. It’s not a slight, just the reality of RBs.

Someone will get a future star at some point

It is just a position that has become "less valued"

The elite WRs are making $30 M. They get to make the big plays, the ones that result in quick scores. RBs get beat up much more and have shorter careers so good teams need two solid backs not one great one and one okay one. Just the nature of managing a salary cap.

For good reason. But, Love is an exception in the risk/reward calculus.

Offensive Lineman seem to be the most reliable 1st round picks.

If I owned a team, my marching orders would be to build the team from the inside out. Use the 1st and 2nd rounds to draft linemen, edge rushers, linebackers, and tight ends.
Use free agency and rounds 3-7 for skill positions.

But there are always exceptions, when a player like Love is available who is a special talent, a game changer. Albeit the genuine concern that RBs are injury prone, does one pass up the pick, only to see Love wearing a different uniform and lighting up the league?

Bottom line is in the modern NFL, a great running back will not make a bad team better. Love is special, but taking a RB in the top ten is not great positional value. But I can see the Chiefs grabbing him at #9.
