Did you ever look for the Oakland A’s rooftop barn when making the pilgrimage from Chicago to ND?

Did you ever go to a pep rally at Stepan Center? It was like a 90 degrees in the toilet paper flying everywhere, human pyramids, completely up for grabs.

Did you ever have a pizza from Nicolaโ€™s pizza in the Bend?

Do you remember the fire hydrants in the bend were painted like soldiers?

Do you remember in the 70s when ND played Alabama and every stop sign in town under STOP had โ€œBamaโ€ underneath it?

Did you ever go with your buddies to meet the bus at the circle after ND pulled off a road win?

Yeah me too! ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

That was Charlie Finleys farm and estate near La Porte. He was a Gary Indiana boy.

putting on a clinic there. ND had Austin Carr, Bob Arnzen(I think) and Bob Whitmore on the floor. The Celtics were giving them a huge lesson playing three on three and then Auerbach says ok the next team to 3 wins. Carr proceeds to swish three corner jumpers to the delight of all of us there. Auerbach just smiles. He loved Carr. That night Russell and the others were at the pep rally going crazy mimicking the students and their defense cheers. Walking out after that pep rally I saw Russell about ten feet away from me and went over and touchned his shoulder just because I wanted to. He hated giving autographs but he never batted an eye at me for doing that. I was lucky. Two other nonfootball legends I have gotten within speaking distance to are Jack Nicklaus and Sandy Koufax. Both were incredibly humble and thanked me for my kind words to them. Imagine that.

I was there when Mohammed Ali did his shadow boxing shuffle to the roar of the crowd.

Any old timers here ever attend that annual slaughter? My dad took me to this scrimmage every Spring followed by a trip to the old jam packed hot bookstore. What a day.

They used to show that on ABC and it was cool. George Izo is a big name I remember.
