You never know when one of the old guys will one day just decide to hang up the cleats. Matt Stafford is 38 years old right now, and has taken quite a few hits throughout his career.
The biggest knock against Ty Simpson was that he only had one full year of starting experience.
That was understandable, given the situation in 2023, where his development stalled badly.
2025's season showcased what he's capable of doing, and he did a fine job, demonstrating that he can make multiple reads on the fly, while delivering an accurate, well timed ball.
As much of a bad rap as Nick Sheridan had as a collegiate QB at Michigan (Rodriguez era), he has turned into a pretty good QB coach.
This way, they can get a season or two to get Simpson ready to take over, and don't have to rush him. He can learn from a polished veteran in the meantime.
That was an idiotic pick for a team going all in on 2026.
offensive team.
