potential Issue for the irish

With the announcement that Comcast may split the company into two pieces, basically the cable operations and NBC network, we should keep an eye on the effect it may have on Notre Dame football. While the contract with NBC runs through 2029, it is possible the "new' NBC may wish to go another direction with its sports emphasis or could be sold to a third entity, such as Netflix, as some are speculating. This may not be problematic but bears watching as it may become an issue for the Irish, given the rumored $40-50M revenue the contract generates. Obviously, this could have an impact on the football team's ability to remain independent. Nothing to worry about in the short-term but worth watching and being aware of down the road.

It is no concern; positive if anything

In the unlikely event NBC decides to go in another direction, then let the bidding begin. Let's pit Amazon / Apple / Netflix and whoever else against each other and see what happens. It is quite a stretch to think that 'this could have an impact on the football team's ability to remain independent'.

If NBC were ND's only option, they wouldn't have their NBC deal.

Both will go with the NBC network, as will Universal studios.

The contract is with NBC, not the cable operation
