You're right. Going back to the the early 1960s.
Stripes on jersey shoulder pads, shamrock decal on helmet. Then white numbers decal on helmets with green jerseys. Then Stars decal on the front of the helmets. Then the Gerry Faust look. Then Lou and so on.
