That Class of 1989 was utterly loaded. We lost a lot of those guys, though, early on, especially three of the defensive crown jewels (Randy Sciana had injuries, Erik Simien and Shawn Smith got kicked out for disciplinary reasons), and Eric Jones' very promising career got cut short, due to an Air Force chop block that almost severed his foot from his ankle.

That, plus Chet Lacheta never panned out, despite being the biggest name OL recruit of that class.

I honestly believe that Coach Freeman has put together the best back to back recruiting classes since Holtz.

If he continues to develop our guys the way he has, I think that the classes, overall, may even be better.

It's unfair to compare the two, though, since the college football landscape has changed a lot in several decades. These days, you also have to factor in the guys brought in via transfer portal, and Coach Freeman has done a fine job of bringing in guys who actually do real work for us.
