As regards oil reserves...just Google "How many years of Proven Oil Reserves does the U.S. have at its current level of consumption?"...you'll find the answer in the U.S. energy "Bible"...i.e. the Energy Information Administration (EIA)...tell me what answer you get...btw, the Alaskan ANWR field is predicted to supply somewhere between 6 mo's to a little over a year's worth of additional oil reserves at current consumption rates...nice, but not a game changer for us (forgetting about Climate Change)...we'll need it for non-burning uses (fertilizers, medicines, plastics, etc.).
As for 'Shutting Down Prematurely"...we are beginning a "Transition", which means huge capital expenditures will be made starting now (e.g. multi-billion dollar EV Battery factories in the U.S. and Europe)...also, new infrastructure projects, like Charging Stations need to be built to handle the increasing number of EVs...like within ten years that will require many billions of dollars...then, near the ten year mark and beyond there will be much more investment in nuclear power plants, nuclear waste recycling plants, as well as appropriately employed Solar and Wind power plants. All this takes CAPITAL that won't be available, nor intended for FF development...that, btw, is already being "Baked In" to the strategic planning of Oil & Gas companies the world over.
Making the future "Dove Tail" with the present seamlessly is an extremely difficult task...we can only do our best to "Keep the Plane Flying", while dealing with frightened FF supplier nations, wars, etc...nonetheless, I'll say it again..."WE HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE".
Am I making myself clear?
