Why do people say things that can be proven wrong with a 30 second search?

Has this always been the case? It’s understandable on an internet message board with things like lmcdonald’s athlete posts that are stupid. It’s another thing for someone with a large media following and/or public profile to do it.

I know the answer, of course, is that the people who they are trying to enrage won’t check what they are saying. Still, it’s odd.
