In my direct experience and in talking to others who play in my commercial space, the PRC has been actively working on gradually in-sourcing technology for the past 20 years, and in great earnest since the Russia-Ukraine war started, to become independent of US products. Any discussion of China markets for US corporations is just for the benefit of those who don't know what is already happening. It is a false hope to access those markets. We were losing them before Trump was elected.
Since the war started, they have been pushing all their companies to have China only supply chains...and US companies have been obliging, because they are losing sales in China, and the only way they can avoid showing losses on the quarterly reports to the Street is to license China corporations to make what the US corporations were making. (Set aside corporate espionage, which is definitely happening. They have also been trying to incentivize the West to give them this tech willingly, and it has been working.)
All this started before Trump. We have a system which encourages a global win on an inequal global playing field. But things are changing fast.
And the rate of change is increasing. Trump is trying to stop this. He will likely fail, but at least he is trying. Pretending it is not happening will only make the situation worse.
