Vance is staking out more of an "tariffs/industrial policy" approach as opposed to a Reagan/Friedman free markets ideology.

Perhaps he's currying favor with his boss... or trying to distinguish himself from Rubio, who's very pro-freedom oriented on everything.

Trump has never been a Republican idealogue... and has the same OCD tendencies as the Dems.

Vance wants to be his heir.

It's not clear how traditional Republican donors will react.
