The lab-leak theory was plausible and remains so. The problem comes from the lack of transparency

...by Fauci at the time. He knew he had provided funding to the lab. (Providing general funds to the lab certainly allows them to direct other funds to GOF.)

Fauci squelched the lab-leak theory when it was certainly as plausible. Leads to the question "Why?". Is it because he knew he had provided funds to the Wuhan lab. This should have been disclosed at the time. Why wasn't it?

Was it wise of Fauci to place trust in the Wuhan Institute of Virology?

AI Overview
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic could have originated from a lab leak, with some intelligence agencies suggesting it is likely; however the scientific consensus leans towards a natural origin through zoonotic transmission. The origins of COVID-19 remain under investigation, and BOTH theories are still considered plausible.

Investigations into the operations of The Wuhan Institute of Virology and the lab-leak theory have led to ongoing debates about its safety and transparency.
