In a February 1, 2020 call with 12 Infectious Disease Experts, 10 of them felt "deliberate insertion" (lab origin) was possible.
Knowing this, Fauci and Francis Collins still worked to try and steer scientists away from the possibility of lab origin during that time period.
"Science" doesn't reject plausible theories or rule them out absent sufficient evidence.
Edit: This has NOTHING to do with NIH views as to lab-leak theory over time. It has to do with what 10/12 experts told Fauci on February 1, 2020 and what he then did with that information AT THAT TIME...and why.
